What Do We Like About Homeschooling?

1. Flexibility in Learning
   One of the biggest benefits of homeschooling is the flexibility to move at a different pace in different subjects. Early on, our child struggled with basic addition worksheets — it became a major concern. We later realized that the anxiety stemmed not from the content but from the format. Traditional worksheets caused him to shut down. Homeschooling allowed us to switch approaches and remove the pressure. Today, at age 9, he's doing algebra. Each subject is tailored to his individual readiness and interest. Though technically in 3rd grade, he's working across multiple grade levels. We’re not bound to a rigid curriculum schedule and can dive deeper into areas he’s curious about.
2. Optimized Schedule for Activities
   Our child takes private music and figure skating lessons. With a homeschool schedule, we can book sessions during less crowded hours, avoiding the after-school rush. This not only secures better time slots but also makes practice and learning more productive and less stressful.
3. Freedom for Travel and Field Trips
   We enjoy museums, zoos, and science centers when they’re quieter and more enjoyable. We can also take vacations during off-peak seasons, saving money on flights and lodging while avoiding crowds. Learning doesn’t have to stop — we often incorporate travel into our curriculum.
4. Less Time Wasted, More Time Gained
   Without daily commutes, transitions between classes, or busywork, more time is freed up for meaningful learning, rest, or exploring hobbies. A focused two or three hours of homeschooling can often replace a full day in a traditional classroom.
5. Emphasis on Mental Health and Emotional Growth
   We can prioritize emotional well-being and adjust the day based on how he’s doing. If he’s having a rough morning, we can ease into the day without penalty. That kind of responsiveness would be much harder in a traditional school setting.
6. Stronger Family Bonding
   Spending more time together allows us to truly understand and support our child’s development. While homeschooling requires effort and commitment from parents, seeing those breakthrough moments firsthand makes it rewarding.

學習彈性
在家自學最大的優點之一，就是各科進度可因材施教。起初，孩子連簡單的加法作業都感到困難—後來我發現問題不在內容，而是「功課」這個形式帶來的焦慮使他腦袋當機。我們因此改變教學方法，減少壓力。如今他 9 歲，已能學習代數。各科依照他的興趣和能力調整，雖然按年齡算是三年級，實際卻是多年級混合程度。我們不受制於制式課綱，可讓他深入探索他喜歡的領域。

活動時間最佳化
孩子學音樂與花式滑冰。彈性的課表讓我們能在教練離峰時段預約，不必和放學人潮搶時段，也能避開擁擠的溜冰場，學習更專注、效率更高。

旅行與戶外教學自由
我們可在平日造訪博物館、動物園與科學中心，人少體驗佳；也能在淡季出遊，機票與住宿更划算，還能把旅程納入課程，邊玩邊學。

減少無效時間，增加寶貴時間
早上不用趕去學校，省下的時間可用於高效學習、休息或培養興趣。對我們而言，專注的 1–2 小時在家學習，往往相當於傳統教室一整天的效果。

重視心理健康與情緒成長
若孩子早上情緒不佳，我們可彈性調整課表，而不至於受罰或落後。這種對情緒的即時回應，在傳統學校較難做到。

加深親子連結
共度更多時光，讓我們更了解並支持孩子的成長。雖然自學壓力還是有的，但是目前我們覺得得到的自由很值得!
